If you’re having trouble installing the **SpikeRecorder** app on your Windows 11 device, it’s likely because your system is configured to **only allow apps from the Microsoft Store**. Since SpikeRecorder is distributed **outside the Microsoft Store** , Windows will block the installation until you change this security setting.

## ✅ How to Fix It: Allow Apps From Anywhere

To enable installation of apps that are not from the Microsoft Store, follow these steps:

1. **Open Settings**
Press **`Windows + I`** on your keyboard to open the **Settings** app.

2. **Go to Apps**
In the left-hand menu, click on **“Apps.”**

3. **Access Advanced App Settings**
On Windows 11, click **“Advanced app settings.”**

4. **Change App Installation Preference**
Look for a section titled **“Choose where to get apps”** or **“Installing apps.”**

5. **Allow External Installations**
From the drop-down menu, select one of these options:

### 💡 Additional Tips

- If you’re using a **school or work device** , these options might be managed by your system administrator. In that case, you will need IT support to enable installation from outside the Microsoft Store.
- Once you’ve changed the setting, run the **SpikeRecorder installer** again. It should now install successfully without any warnings or blocks.

**Why this happens:**
By default, Windows 11 is configured to install only apps from the Microsoft Store for security reasons. Because **SpikeRecorder is an external application** , you need to manually allow installations from other sources before proceeding.

I am also having an installation issue and the app crashes immediately upon start - the error code given is for the way the app is trying to access RAM. I sent the log over by email but heard nothing back yet. I have also tried to install the Linux version in WSL, which also won’t run and finally built the package from the github - again no luck as I am afraid here I have little knowledge and the instructions aren’t clear - no matter what I try, make will not work correctly in WSL or Visual Basic. Do you have anything I can try to get this app working?
